BLACK AND WHITE VELVET
August 20, 19:00 | St Catherine's Church
A luxurious piano recital
MICHIEL BORSTLAP (piano, the Netherlands)
When Michiel Borstlap plays the piano, one dives in over their head into the “crystal clear” world he creates (New York Times). This magical experience has been enjoyed by audiences from 92 countries around the world. This year, the performer is coming to Lithuania!
Borstlap is a child prodigy, who has been perfecting his already extraordinary abilities for his whole life. He was set up for a bright future as a classical pianist. However, the performer unexpectedly fell in love with… jazz. In 1992 Borstlap won the title of best soloist at the Brussels Jazz Competition, and in 1996 he became the first European to win the prestigious Thelonious Monk/BMI Composers Competition. This achievement opened the doors to very successful collaborations with jazz giants such as Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Gino Vannelli, Jimmy Haslip, Bill Bruford and others.
Currently, the pianist has turned his attention to solo appearances, which are just right for an introduction to hearing Mozart in a poetic jazz style.
Concert duration: 75 min.
