SACRED MUSIC HOURS: THE BALTIC WAY

August 22, Tuesday

St. Casimir’s Church, 19:00

JAMES D. HICKS (organ, USA)

“It was one of those rare moments in the history of humanity when people, holding nothing but sword-lilies in their hands, became a force that could not be conquered by any military power” (Virginijus Savukynas, lrt.lt). On August 23, 1989 almost two million people in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia made a human chain, not even suspecting that soon enough, their greatest ambition and dearest wish would become a reality.

Today the Baltic Way is not just evidence of the desire and will to be free, but also a source of inspiration for the acclaimed American organist James D. Hicks. To mark this event, he will perform a programme featuring works by Baltic composers, including world premieres by Žibuoklė Martinaitytė and Vidas Pinkevičius.
Let’s experience the power of togetherness amid the uplifting resonance of the organ.

Programme features works by Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, Vidas Pinkevičius, Jakabs Medins, Alfred Karindi and others.
