Somnambulism

24–26 September, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00 | Bastion of the Vilnius Defensive Wall (Bokšto g. 20, Vilnius)

Author, director, scenographer Goda Paleikaitė

Somnambulism is an altered state of consciousness, a simultaneous occurrence of sleep and wakefulness. This phenomenon is often referred to as simply lunatism. Goda Palekaitė’s Somnambulism is a five-performance event that will take place in the Bastion of the Vilnius Defensive Wall. Spectators will be assigned visitors’ roles in this fictional “museum” while the performances themselves will become “museum” exhibits. With the help of the map, “museum” visitors will move around the Bastion, experiencing somnambulism in various ways. In addition to Lithuanian authors, Palekaitė’s performances will feature Iranian artist Sina Seifee and Argentinian choreographer Caterina Mora.

Goda Palekaitė is a Belgium-based scenographer, contemporary and performance artist, combining artistic and anthropological practices. Her works integrate texts, installations, scenography and performances, exploring the mechanisms for constructing and destroying history and truth, tensions of different geographies and narratives, as well as the conditions for creativity. In addition to stark balance between interdisciplinary art fields, her work features the international element, as the artist works on projects reaching different parts of the world.
