SACRED MUSIC HOURS: OPENING
June 27, Tuesday
St. Casimir’s Church, 19:00
LITHUANIAN ARMED FORCES BAND
Artistic Director and Conductor Major EGIDIJUS ALIŠAUSKAS
RIMVYDAS MITKUS (organ)
The opening of the Sacred Music Hours will feature three premieres, a walk in the “Forest” and a chorale dedicated to St Casimir. This impressive programme will be performed by the Lithuanian Armed Forces Headquarters Band, under the baton of Egidijus Ališauskas and with organist Rimvydas Mitkus.
Alfred Reed’s Alleluia, Laudamus Te, played for the first time in Lithuania, is like one grand, glorifying hymn without lyrics. The second premiere will be John Ireland’s Epic March. The composer created this work during the dark World War II years as encouragement, spiritual support and inspiration for the Brits. The third premiere will be William Walton’s Crown Imperial, which shall transport us to the coronation ceremony of George VI in Westminster Abbey. Incidentally, the work was also played during later state ceremonies: the coronation of Queen Elisabeth II in 1953 and at the wedding of Prince William in 2011.
Dive into this powerful wave of resonance, which is sure to flood the lofty heights of St Casimir’s Church!
Programme features works by Alfred Reed, John Ireland, William Walton and others.
