Yoann Bourgeois (France) Tentative approaches to a point of suspension
May 23 - 25
Dūmų fabrikas, all day
Program of short works
For several years, Yoann Bourgeois has pursued an artistic research rooted in devices that amplify physical phenomena. This constellation of works is a lifelong research. It is a process of permanent creation he calls: Tentative approaches to a point of suspension.
I began to build my program because I had reached an age where I could imagine the inevitable outlines of life, regardless of their reality, and speak of the future as if it were the past. This age was not an objective threshold nor a temporal reality; but a growing awareness over time. No matter the number of days left, no matter how optimistic the prognosis, our days would not be enough. My idea was to defuse time. Of course the task was impossible in itself, but there were ways to approach the subject.
My program would be straightforward, definitive. I chose one simple sentence to name the body of works: Tentative approaches to a point of suspension. Something like the desire for a corpus, yes. We started with the details. In details, we saw that a collection of short acts can be just as powerful as a single larger work. Pieced together in a program, they seek a common goal: to encircle the present. Through the physical intertwining of the constructions onstage—the amalgam of various apparatus and machinery, how they relate to each other, to space and time, to the audience, to an image— join in pursuit of one moment: “the point of suspension”.
